Sewing Classes

Basic Machine Sewing 1

Two hour class to introduce you to a sewing machine. Learn how the machine works, how to use different stitches, how to sew a button hole, and how to put in a basic machine hem. $30

Seams (Basic Machine Sewing 2)

This 2 hour class is for beginner sewers, who already have a basic understanding of how the sewing machine works. In this class we will focus on seams. You will learn how to do several different kinds of seams as well as how to create curved seams. By the end of this class you will have enough basic sewing knowledge to start working on projects. $30

Basic Hand Sewing

Two hour class to introduce you to hand sewing. In this class you will learn several different stitches, how to sew on a button, and how to put in a hand hem. $30

Basic Combos

Sign up one person for two of our Basic Sewing classes. $50
Sign up one person for all three of our Basic Sewing classes. $75

Throw Pillow Cover class:

In this 3.5 hour class you will learn how to make covers for square pillows. We will go over how the original pattern was made and then construct the actual pillow covers. We recommend you take our basic sewing class before this class, if you have not sewn before. All students are required to supply their own materials. If you fail to bring your materials to class you will only be able to observe the class. We do not sell the materials you need.$45
Materials:
• 1 yard of 60 inch wide upholstery weight fabric
or 1 1/3 yards of 42 inch wide upholstery weight fabric
(you may need more fabric for matching patterns)
• One spool of thread to match your fabric
• 2 square 18 in X 18 in square pillow fills
• Two buttons about 1 in (for the back of the cover)

Skirt Class:

Wouldn’t you love to update your skirt collection? Sign up now for our skirt class. Learn how to make a perfect A-line skirt. In this class we will walk you through the process of making your skirt. You will learn how to put in an invisible zipper, how to hem your skirt, how to line your skirt, and how to put on the waist band. This class is taught in two, three hour sessions. $75

If you fail to bring your materials to class you will only be able to observe the class. We do not sell the materials you need.

Materials:
I recommend quilters weight cotton for both the skirt and lining fabrics.
Skirt fabric – 2 yards
Lining fabric- 2 yards
9” invisible zipper- 1
Thread to match you skirt fabric- 1 spool
If lining color is different you will also need thread to match your lining fabric.

Skirt Pattern Class

This class is made up of four, three hour sessions. In this class you will learn how to make a basic skirt pattern and then how to manipulate it into several different styles. This class requires you to have a solid basic sewing background. If you have never successfully made a fitted skirt before you may not want to take this class yet.

All pattern making materials are included and will be provided.

When you finish this class you will have a pattern that fits you and the skills to change this pattern into several other patterns. Get ready to update your spring skirt collection. $150

Knitting Classes

Learn to knit

This class starts at the very beginning. You will learn the basics of yarn and needles as well as how to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off (everything you need to get started). You will also learn how to create a few different stitch patterns using knit and purl stitches. The class is made up of 3 sessions. Each session is 1.5 hours long. This class is limited to 4 students, so don’t wait to sign up. $45

Materials:

  • Needles: US size 7, 8, or 9 - We sell Denise knitting needles (made in Waynesboro). These needles are $12.00.
  • Yarn: worsted weight, sold colored, light colored, smooth yarn

Intro to lace knitting

Have you knitted a million plain scarves and want to make your work a little more interesting? This class will introduce you to lace knitting. You will learn the basic stitches used in lace and get started on a lace scarf. Don’t let the word lace scare you, this pattern is made from worsted weight yarn and is knitted on size 8 needles. The class is 2.5 hours long. Class limited to 6 students. $30

Skills needed:
You need to already know how to cast on, cast off, knit, and purl.

Materials:

  • Pattern $5
  • One skein Flock Bransonas 60% wool, 40% silk yarn $25
  • Size 8 needles - We sell Denise size 8 needles (made in Waynesboro) for $12.00, if you do not have a size 8 already.

Knitting in the Round (Part one: Hat)

In this two session class you will learn how to knit in the round on both circular and double pointed needles. In these two classes I will walk you through how to knit a hat. $50

Skills needed:
You need to already know how to cast on, knit, and purl.

Materials:

  • Pattern $6.50
  • One skein Flock Bransonas 60% wool, 40% silk yarn $25 (Please note that if you take both parts of this class you only need 1 skein total, both the hat and the fingerless mittens can be worked from one skein)
  • Size 7, 16” circular knitting needles (We sell Denise knitting needles which are made here in Waynesboro, or you can purchase these somewhere else)
  • Size 5, Double pointed knitting needles (We do not sell Double pointed needles, so you will need to buy these elsewhere.)
  • Stitch markers

Knitting in the Round (Part two: Fingerless Mittens)

In this two session class you will be knitting in the round on double pointed needles. In these two classes I will walk you through how to knit fingerless mittens.$50

Skills needed:
You need to already know how to cast on, knit, and purl.

Materials:

  • Pattern $6.50
  • One skein Flock Bransonas 60% wool, 40% silk yarn $25 (Please note that if you take both parts of this class you only need 1 skein total, both the hat and the fingerless mittens can be worked from one skein)
  • Size 5, Double pointed knitting needles (We do not sell Double pointed needle, so you will need to buy these elsewhere.)
  • Stitch markers

Knitting in the Round combo:
sign up for both knitting in the round classes for $75

Cabled Scarf Class

In this class you will learn the basic cable stitches and how to follow a cable chart. You will then have time to start your scarf and ask any questions you have while working on the project? $30

Skills needed: You need to already know how to cast on, cast off, knit, and purl.

Materials:

  • Pattern $6.50
  • Two skeins Flock Bransonas 50% Alpaca, 50% Wool yarn $23 each
  • Size 7 needles (We sell Denise knitting needles ($12) which are made here in Waynesboro, or you can purchase these somewhere else)
  • Cable needle (we do not carry cable needles)
Private Sewing/Knitting Lesson:

Have a one on one sewing/knitting lesson. You choice the project. Each project must be preapproved, there may be restrictions on some projects.
$35 per 1 hour session
$65 per 2 hour session
